A Catch of Albacore and some kind of Huge, Rather Large Ika made for a day of good offshore fishing on the Pegasus out of Fisherman's Landing. It was the Annual Fred Fukunaga Group, with Jason on the Wheel and a great crew to help us out during the trip. The boat looked great with high hopes of fishing Alberts NW of the Point. We loaded our gear and made ourselves comfortable for the ride out. It was a hot summer night with some humidity in the air. These guys are going to take over the CharterGroup. There is a priority list. The regulars are given the first shot at the three 1.5 day trips (spaced 3 weeks apart) then the list is open up to the rest of the fishing public. We carry 20 guys on these trips typically leaving on Saturday Nights and come home O-Dark-Thirty (say 5AM) on the following Monday morning. Hot Galley made life good on the Pegasus.
Whitey steered the boat to the 60 Mile Bank to find a 5 ft ground swell and 15 knots of wind......it was not ideal, but we had to play the cards at hand. We found fish, but very few willing to bite. Finding the right schools was tough, but Jason found em.
(Jason was fired up to see the Squid Boys.....yeah right)
”There are 2 things I hate Bob…that is Wind and Squid”
Meatballs of micro anchovies and sardines littered the zone. Big and small boats everywhere. We picked away at the schools. Jumpers appeared in the afternoon and we had good fishing on the Sardine. Light Line was good, and they also bit the heavy gear. The Weather started to lay down and the white caps started to fade.
