Offshore on the Endeavor with Jeff Yee

Jeff Yee with the Hara Wedding Special Salas 6xJr
YoYo Bluefin

Hi Folks

I had the opportunity to fish on the Annual Jeff Yee 1.5 Day Offshore Fishing Trip on the Endeavor this past weekend. This year Jeff stepped up the trip to a 1.5 day trip giving us more time on the water. It was stellar weather with no wind to speak of. David Ikeda and crew welcomed us aboard. "Man, the weather has been like this since July 4th. Grease calm days." It was all of the fixings for a great trip and the group was ready to fish.

Jessica and John

What makes the trip really cool is the great people that make up the group.

This was my third time with the group and the first time offshore for my wife Jessica. She did a great job pulling in 7 Dodos and a couple of Yellows. Not bad for the first time offshore. I was stoked for her.

Angileen - Good One

Doug-e-Fresh with a Sample of Ahi

Tyler and Jessica

We ended up the day with a mixed bag of Yellowtail and Mahi. The Dodos were free swimming all over the place. It was like looking into an aquarium. It a mixed bag on size. The Mahi were eating bait and the 7X Surface Iron, and the Yellows were on anything you tossed at em. We did get a few Bluefin in the grey on the YoYo and a mid day sample of Yellowfin on bait. Doug also gave us a show when he hooked a rather large Mako right off the windy side of the boat. We also had two marlin come up behind the trollers and bite short.

Nice DoDo

Our Fearless Leader Striking a Pose

First Time offshore for Jessica Hara

Hey Vince. Hope to see you next year.

Thanks again to David and the crew of the Endeavor. Eddie cooked some kick ass meals for the trip and we all thank you very much. Hats off to our CharterMaster Jeff Yee for pulling off another great trip. Sign up Mr. and Mrs. Hara for next year!!!!

Hi Jeff and Bob,

Well without overstating the obvious that was one heck of a fishing trip on Sunday!!! Boys had an absolute blast and there is no doubt you’ve fueled the fishing fire in all of their little bellies.

The Kenny Family waiting on Bob to get ready (that is another story we can skip for now)

First Drop of the Day and First Fish on the Birthday Rod

Myles turned 7 on that day, and I can tell you he’s completely hooked (pun intended) on this whole fishing gig. Myles asked me today on the way to camp, “When I start working, how often can I fish?” Great question, Myles, great question. I’ve attached a few (okay, more than a few) pics of the big day.

All the best,

Bryan

It was a pleasure having the Kenny Klan on board the Fortuna. It was an awesome day on the water and a great way to celebrate the birthday. Looking forward to doing it again.

Happy Birthday Myles

Bob…here's the pics of Brian I promised…. Sorry they're not in such good shape. Back when these were taken, they had these things called Polaroids, and someone owned the shots…..

Here's the shots with Brian in them. We were both skinny dudes once upon a time…. But as you can tell, he was more the stud than I….

Here's the shot of my 200lb Kamikaze on a 50 wide single speed on a Calstar 655xxh. This fish won the jackpot I embarrassed to say… On the other hand, I was the only one that decided not to go to sleep like Frank LoPreste said, and the only one stupid enough to use a 2 foot long scad. Frank said it was strange looking 200….looked a lot larger when we actually brought it on board, versus its actual weigh-in at the dock.

Here's a shot of the results of my "once-in-a-lifetime" night/morning at Roca Partida. A 150, 155, 175 Kamikaze that shook the gaff and fought for another 2 hours, and the 200 Kamikaze on the scad that started the all night/morning bite.

No worries on the Quality of the pics Mike.
What really counts is the content of the pictures.
Single Speed and No Spectra........
I need to stream some Earth Wind and Fire and we would be Full Speed Old School.

The boat returned this morning with a catch of just World class Yellowtail (which had beautiful color when they came out of the hole) mixed in with a fair amount of the early season Bluefin tuna, a sampling of Albacore and not to forget our first White Seabass. The weather was one we all will remember in a good way...after last weeks trip. It was a great time with a variety of nice fish. Thanks to our wonderful gang of Guys and Gal thanks again to Catchy Tackle - Drew, John and Wayne - for the nice give aways on this trip. Check out jackpot winners below and passenger Carl Brown, who treated himself to this trip before going overseas to serve - thanks for fishing with us! And, not pictured, our regular passenger, Joe Skinner, caught the second biggest Albacore of the season (according to Bill Roecker), weighing in at 37.6lbs.

Mission Accomplished
Nice fish Paul

CBass Report from Cat

June 3, 2008

White Seabass are chewing at Catalina Island. Liwei went out this last weekend on the Dreamer out of Pierpoint and they scored full limits of toad croakers. Smallest fish was 35lbs and 3 bruisers at 50lbs.

There is plenty of quality squid on the baitgrounds back east with occasional homeguard yellows breezing through at gray.

The season here in Southern California is finally kicking off.

Nice Catch Liwei

Very Well Done......

It was Howling, They were Chewing

On the Troll. Way to go Matt.

Courtesy of Bill Roecker

Skipper Jeff DeBuys docked Independence at Point Loma Sportfishing June 1 after an eight-day Purfield’s Tackle charter. The trip found biting tuna offshore, and after weather picked up, finished up on the beach and at Cedros Island.

“In the beginning we had good weather,” DeBuys said Sunday morning. “There was good sign of bluefin, albacore and yellowfin, but we saw more bluefin. When the weather came up, they all went down. So we went to the coast, where we found some good quality yellowtail. These guys toughed it out, regardless. It was a good trip.”

Jackpot winner Tom Banks of Malibu caught a 35-pound yellowtail that bit a surface jig. Banks fished 50-pound Izorline, a Shimano 40 reel and a Seeker rod.

“He went straight for the beach,” Banks said. “Took all the mono, all the spectra, he peeled it right off. Everybody was screaming.”

Terry Sandoval, an Independence regular, won second for a 34.8-pound yellowtail. Sandoval fly-lined a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Owner hook, 40-pound Blue Izorline, a Calstar 800 H rod and a Trinidad Narrow 40 Special reel.

Jeff had to work for them,” Sandoval said. “It was very windy, but we had a couple of stops on the bluefin. The whole boat was hooked up on one of them. Then we had to go hide at the Island, to get away from the swells.”

Bob Edwards placed third with a 34-pound yellowtail. He fished a 4/0 circle Owner hook, 30-pound Izorline, a Calstar 7-foot rod and a Trinidad 30 reel.

“It was howling, but they were chewing!” Edwards said. “I had outstanding gear, it just tooled the fish.”

“The water structure looks good for albacore out there for upcoming trips,” DeBuys added. “We got a big one on this trip.”

Matthew Smith, of Culver City landed the 40-pound albacore on the troll. Smith joined the lineup with his big longfin.

“Most of the other albies were little,” Smith said, “but this one is a nice albacore.”

Way to represent Matt.
Many Thanks to Bill Roecker
