Guys,

We had a BERKLEY 'crew trip' Wednesday with Matt Barlow second relief captain running the IMPULSE out of Dana Landing. Onboard was Luc Ofield from Anglers Choice, Brandon Cotton from Fish Rap, Harry Okuda, Chris Marso, Erik LeVang, and myself. We left the landing at 6:15am- and ran up to La Jolla. Arriving on the grounds, the VOYAGER passed over a couple brails of live squid. The morning bite was a slow pick for the fleet. At 8:45am, we were bouncing white or scrambled egg Salas 6x jrs tipped with squid when both Harry and I got wired. Head shakes and dogged out runs to deep water - the sea bass were biting! Harry's fish went 38 lbs, and my personal best 46 lbs.

Ran back up to our numbers, and Brandon Cotton hooks a tanker bouncing a glow Salas 6x jr on #25 Trilene Big Game. We knew it was a slug but when 61.6 lbs of sea bass came over the rail- it was surreal! Just a tanker! On the bow, both Erik and I get wired again on the Salas 6x jrs, my fish comes unbuttoned, Erik gets his first sea bass ever- 43 lbs on Trilene Big Game #25. We fished through the tide and were back in the slip at 1pm.

Hell of a ½ day local trip- the IMPULSE is a sweet ride too.

Saturday...
It is believed to be the 1st Channel Is. yellow of 2008, on the jig!!
GIVE HIM A BUTTON!!!!!!

I fished Anacapa yesterday with a good buddy, Bob H. We found clean 58 degree water, decent current, lots of mammals and scattered meatballs. Overall there wasn't a lot of action, but Bob pulled through in the clutch and put the first yellow of 2008 on the boat, on the 6Xjr. Nice going Bob!!

That fish provided the needed motivation to keep jigging, we got a few bottom grabbers but that was it for yellows.

Overall it was a really nice day over there, the breeze backed off mid morning and it turned greasy flat.

I think someone with a tank of squish could do all right out there right now.

Yellowtail Poke tonight!

Greg

Thanks for the Great day at the Island Stoney

Montauk Point - Bass and Blues

Gents,

Here are a few pictures of our outing back in mid-November off of Montauk Point – an area I haven’t fished since I was a kid. My brother, Marc, and I hooked up with long time childhood friend, John Grant and his father who organized the outing with their friends, Captain Bob Grau and mate Robbie Grau.

Bob's - East Coast

Day started calm as ever only to grow to some very sloppy, raining, and cold conditions…add a little diesel smell into the mix and the chum was easy to come by.

Nevertheless, as you can see we were able to land a few striped bass as well a handful of blue fish – trolling and jigging. Many thanks to Captain Bob Grau and his son/mate, Robbie, who kept us in the right spot to land some delicious fish and a few great memories.

Thanks for the report Bryan.
Nice Catch

Channel Island Yellows

What's up guys,

Tim, you're not going to like this....

I went looking for some of that nice grade of yellowtail that popped up at Anacapa earlier in the week. No sign of squid anywhere but big meatballs of sardine and mackerel were everywhere.

I started jigging and metering up and down the backside and only had a few bass to show for it for the morning. After lunch I finally found a little nugget and put a couple on the boat, 33# and 36#, both on the jig. I had one other come unbuttoned and a mackerel got slammed while I was on a fish. Both fish had that channel islands girth and pulled!

The weather was bitchin overall, grease going over, then some offshores coming over the island for a couple of hours, then it laid down again and was hot.

Greg

Well done Stoney
