Subject: FW: Cachuma trout derby

Bob and I had a relaxed weekend at the 14th annual Lake Cachuma 2 day trout derby - though the trout were hard to come by, After hours of boredom trolling while listening to tunes on the Ipod; we switched tactics to our favored species. The bassin' was excellent on gitzits and roboworms. Smallmouth were found on rocky points and walls, while the largemouths were caught on the flats near Arrowhead Island.

Day 1 = 20 bass ( Large and Small mouth) and 1 trout

Day 2 = 18 bass ( small mouth) and 1 trout

The 2 trout we managed to hook had no tags so they became - steamed on the grill - dinners.

Trout Derby results:

High tag #591, caught by 13 yr. old girl = $2,000

2nd highest tag # 585, caught by 7 yr. old boy = $1,000

Longest trout 22 1/8 inches( 7.0 pounds) = $1,000

~820 derby participants caught 23 tagged trout out of the 300 tagged. Of course plenty more without tags.

Nice to see the " next generation" of fishermen win the big cash awards! The oldest angler to land trout was 93 yrs. old. Wow.
